April 2005
Resurrection greetings from Chiang Mai, Thailand:
It’s hot season here; a resurrection miracle season. There
is almost no rain, but the trees burst into bright blossoms of
orange, yellow, red, and purple. It’s a nature parable of
resurrection that blesses my heart each year. When life is at
its driest and bleakest, beauty and life show up miraculously.
As a family we are resting in the hope of a resurrection miracle.
As you may have seen on our November 2004 letter on the PC(USA)
“Mission Connections” Web site, our son Paul has significant
personal struggles that challenge us all. We are happy that he
was released from prison and has been living at home since the
end of January. We are grateful for a new counseling center in
Chiang Mai set up for missionary families. As I have mentioned
before, Chiang Mai is a hub for missionaries who work throughout
Asia, and this new center is much needed. We are finding family
therapy sessions most helpful. We’re grateful that Paul’s
brother Nathan, and his sisters, Anna and Kris, are also living
here in Chiang Mai now, and we are enjoying lots of good family
time.
Praise God for physical freedom for Paul, and for family together
in Chiang Mai.
Please pray that Paul will find freedom from addiction, and choose
the abundant life that God made him for. Pray that as his parents
we will provide the support and love he most needs at this time.
Pray for lots of joy as a family.
On the work front, Payap University’s school year is winding
down. Our student ministry volunteer staff report that about 70
students have been participating regularly in mentoring relationships
and discipleship programs. This is an increase over the past couple
years, but it is still only 1 percent of our students. We need
a full-time student ministry staff person, to develop a network
of student cell groups throughout the university. |
