Alifa was beside herself with
the joy of having her big brothers and sister home from boarding
school.
Moses was thankful for a very successful soccer season. He was
co-captain of the varsity team, which was 13-2 for the season.
He was also top scorer, with 20 goals, and was given the award
for best sportsmanship. We are so very proud of him.
Nathan was thankful for the end of term and for getting home.
It was a long, hard term that included an incredible flu epidemic
with over 100 students in the high school and several staff out
of commission at its peak. It meant a lot of make-up work and
a lot of pressure. In spite of all that, he managed to bring home
a 3.0 average! He and Moses also sent in their college applications
(to schools in North Carolina and east Tennessee). We can’t
wait to see where they are accepted and where they will decide
to go.
This mama’s heart was overflowing with thankfulness to
God for His faithfulness throughout the year. What a joy to have
all seven children around the table, sharing a special meal, laughing
and talking. But I also had to express my thankfulness for the
privilege of caring for a much larger family this year—a
family that included 35 infants that came and went through the
Crisis Nursery, each one precious in God’s sight, given
a future and a hope because He lives and cares.
Frank wasn’t with us at the Thanksgiving table, but expressed
his thanks later. He is thankful for his family, for the opportunity
to be with his parents and siblings in the United States, for
the chance to cool off after the heat of Malawi, and for a year
rich in relationships and making headway in the fight against
HIV/AIDS on the continent.
