Dear Friends in Christ,
Let us together give thanks to our Creator for seasons of new
beginnings. Winter may seem to drag through wet, gray days, but
there are also some blue skies with only small clouds, reminding
us of the warmth of God’s love which surrounds us. Kwassui
Gakuin, where I teach in the Women’s College, also celebrates
in this season.
We marked our 125th anniversary as an educational institution
on December 1, 2004, and look forward to many continued years
of service in women’s education based on Christian principles.
As our graduates commence new phases of life, we pray that they
will be guided and encouraged by God’s Spirit reminding
them of what they have been taught at Kwassui.
The end of January was the retirement date for Kwassui chancellor
and chairperson of the Board of Regents, Mr. Yuzuru Hirohata,
who had been a professor of Japanese literature from the starting
years of Kwassui Women’s College in the early 1980s, and
it was also the time of selection of a new chairperson, Mr. Yoshito
Yamaguchi, and of the advancement of our Professor Noboru Nonomura
to serve as chancellor in addition to his previous position as
president of the college and junior college. The latter will be
closing after this year’s graduation in March, but the former
continues opening new programs as the competition for student
intake in Japan is increasing.
When Mr. Yamaguchi spoke at the installation of the new chancellor,
he reminded everyone that Kwassui Gakuin “belongs to God.”
We are just called to fulfill responsibilities and offer service
with this organization, and while the person chosen to be the
director is the one to take charge, it is God who directs the
way we are to go. |
