I asked God, “Why did it
happen today?” We had prepared very hard and a lot of young
people from the churches of the four tribes participated. A 15-member
youth group from the He-Ping Church took a train to Hualien city
and then rented a car in order to make it to praise night in this
village. This time, three college groups from our HACM (Hualien
Aboriginal College Ministry) prepared for the night of praise,
where before only one college group had been involved. After the
program, we went to the hospital to see the girl. When we heard
her cry from the emergency bed and knew that she had regained
consciousness, we were so happy that we also cried. A week later
she was discharged from the hospital. She had deep injuries in
her head, but survived. The doctor told the pastor, “It
is a miracle.” I believe God showed mercy upon her when
we all prayed for her. God’s power was made perfect in our
weakness again. Hallelujah!
Besides all the other programs we’re involved with, I had
to start the first aboriginal pastors training in February, and
will continue this until the end of May. We also held for special
worship service for Passion Week and Easter at our College Student
Church.
Now we’d like to share our sufferings with you. For several
weeks I had pains in my teeth. Yesterday I went to see a dentist
and he said I had gum problems. He gave me antibiotics and suggested
I take a good rest. I still have that thorn. Last month Yen Hee
had a thorn in her flesh as well. One day she went to a market
to buy vegetables. Suddenly a motorcycle hit her right leg. A
grandfather left the motorcycle running and his 4-year-old grandson
playing on it. When the boy touched the accelerator button, the
motorcycle ran into Yen Hee. She could hardly walk. She went to
the emergency room and did all things the doctor asked her to
do, but she didn’t heal. So she went to see a Chinese doctor
as well. Four weeks later, it is much better now. The first week
she couldn’t sleep due to the pain. The grandfather came
to our center twice and apologized. When he makes his third visit,
I will tell him he doesn’t have to pay for Yen Hee’s
bill if listens to me tell of the good news for 30 minutes. He
is a Buddhist and seems to want to know who Jesus is. I pray that
God use our physical weakness, our thorns to spread the good news
to all the people in Hualien, Taiwan.
This is the first time we have shared our physical weaknesses
with you. We have often shared with you our spiritual and mental
weaknesses. After we saw the movie “The Passion of the Christ,”
I decided to share our physical weakness with you because Jesus’s
physical suffering is as important as Jesus’s resurrection.
Only after Jesus suffered and died was it possible for him to
be resurrected—for us, all of the people in the world.
We pray that we continually live by faith with our thorns and
pains. We are sure you have them too. We pray that God’s
power is made perfect in your weakness as well.
Again, thanks for your prayers and diligent support. We hope
to see you face to face in your churches and share with you how
God has used us for God’s kingdom.
From October to March we’ll be at Mission Haven: 235 Inman
