A letter from Choon and Yen Hee Lim in Taiwan

July 22, 2005

Dear Friends in Christ,

Last Monday Typhoon Haitang landed on Taiwan, the strongest typhoon in 30 years. It had a wind speed of grade 17 in Hualien (when the wind speed is more than grade 15, people can't stand up against the wind). Haitang made a direct hit on Hualien and so far 14 people have died. Land slides and flooding has destroyed many houses, and many bridges have been washed away. More than a million homes are without electricity now.

Photograph taken through a lens with drops of water on it. Choon is shown outside, soaking wet, standing with arms akimbo among fallen tree limbs.   For our center, as you can see in the pictures, it is an unthinkable situation. Because our center is near the ocean, we have more damage than other places. But we first give thanks to God that no one from our center has been injured. And we also didn't sustain damages as heavy as our neighbor’s, who had their roof blown away. Our worst damage was on the north side, where the windows were broken. Due to that, the rain came into our center. Except for these problems we are OK. We have to clean up all the broken trees. Please pray for this.

We truly thank God that the trees that fell didn't hit our center at all. As we see the many trees on the ground, it is miracle that there is no damage from them. In the darkness we saw the light. That is why our hearts are still filled with joy.

In Christ,

Choon and Yenhee
