A letter from Choon and Yen Hee Lim in Taiwan

Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.
- Job 37:14

Dear Friends in mission,

Easter blessings! As we see the trees, grass, and flowers come to life, we are reminded that Jesus is alive!

Ten years ago God called us to Hualien to tell the salvation story. We have obeyed the call and served the aboriginal people since then (including two years language study in Taipei, Taiwan). Now our PC(USA) mission board informed us that some missionaries might have to leave the mission field at the end of 2008 due to the lack of mission funding. We wonder what will happen to our future.

We have prayed about it and we decided to surrender our worries to the One who knows our future and all our needs. This was a valuable lesson for us about trust. We ought to rely on God for everything—good and bad. Worrying about it would consume energy we need for our most important task—proclaiming the message of the kingdom of God. Whatever our mission board decides, today we take the salvation story to the people of Taiwan (which is only 3 percent Christian) and especially to aboriginal college students. God will provide everything else we need for our calling.

After we moved to our beautiful new mission center in 2003, we started a church for college students there. It began with around 10 students. With God’s blessing and grace, now we have 30 students who attend regularly. Bringing college students to the church was a big challenge for us because Sunday worship is not a priority for college students. We used many methods to bring them in, such as providing lunch, offering them transportation, publishing a newsletter, and having a coffee house on Saturday. We have now seen our work we fruit: students come to church to praise God because they want to. Last year Choon baptized eight people.

  1. Besides Sunday worship and each Christian group’s activities, there are things that we organize annually:
  2. Winter College Retreat: February 6 – 9
  3. College Gospel Song Contest: April 13
  4. College Students Volleyball and Basketball Tournament: April 21
  5. Special Praise Night at the Toroko Tribe Church: May 5 – 6
  6. Summer College Retreat: July 9 – 12
  7. Summer College Officers’ Training Retreat: September 3 – 7
  8. Fast and Reading Bible Camp: October 5 – 6
  9. New Student Welcoming Party: October 13
  10. Fall College Retreat: November 17 –18
  11. Special Praise Night at the Bunun tribe church: December 1 – 2

We also have a special graduation worship service in our mission center (May 27) and a graduation trip on June 1 – 2. Please pray for our programs.

We give thanks to God for providing all these programs and activities. These blessing came through our supporting churches and individuals. Without your support and prayers, we couldn’t be here and do this work. So we deeply thank you and ask you to support and pray for our ministry and for us without ceasing.

Faithfully in mission,

Yen Hee and Choon Lim
