Dear Friends,
I saw Jesus yesterday. I saw our Lord. He was short, middle-aged,
a little plump, with dark skin and hair and looked very tired.
Very unimposing until I saw his heart, and what a heart it was.
You see, He appeared in the form of Mama Lupita. She lives in
a poor, dusty colonia in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, where she is the
mama to 90, yes ninety, homeless children. When Lupita heard our
Saviors call, she answered with an unconditional, "Here
I am Lord, send me." Her journey was to her own front door
where she opened her heart and home to a child in need. This was
the beginning of what has grown into a large, rambling, continually
evolving childrens home just across the border from Laredo,
Texas, where my wife Trel and I have had the privilege to serve
for the past two years.
The childrens home began on one womans faith that
God will provide, and He continues to do so for Mama Lupita and
a group of His children ranging in age from infant to 17 years.
They receive support and funding from whoever is touched to provide.
There is no safety net to catch all the unwanted, abandoned, abused
and neglected children in this impoverished area. At times it
seems that only God cares for His children here, and then you
see a Mama Lupita. What a humbling and faith-inspiring experience
it is to see Him in this form. He can and does do all things through
us if we will only answer his call with our weak and terrified
voice of "here I am Lord, send me."
Thank you, PC(USA), and all your supporting members for the opportunity
to see our Savior face to face.
