Friends,
Mother love
As I was walking to the hospital this morning at 6:00 a.m., the air was cool and crisp. The monkeys, believe it or not, were cavorting around the trees near the hospital. All of a sudden a very mad black hen was chasing an adult monkey five times her size across the parking lot and the monkey escaped up a tree. Then the mother hen rushed back to her tiny chicks, a perfect example of mother love. The monkey was apparently bothering her chicks.

Research has shown that premature babies do better in limited resource settings and more survive with Kangaroo Mother Care. Here's one of our mothers who gave birth to twins.
Right now at Mulanje Mission Hospital we have ten mothers who are devoting all their waking hours to caring for their newborn premature babies. Our program of Kangaroo Mother Care requires that the tiny, but healthy babies stay strapped on their mothers’ chests all the time. Research has shown that in limited resource settings premature babies do better and more survive with Kangaroo Mother Care. The mothers even sleep in special beds with their babies on their chests.
Last week we had three sets of twins in Kangaroo Mother Care.
Mother love seems to be manifested in all the species, from mother hens to human beings.
Sincerely,
Dr. Sue Makin
