A letter from Todd and Tricia Reinschmidt on the U.S.-Mexico border

September 29, 2005

Tricia and I have been very busy with Pasos de Fe work as well as trying to maintain some sense of normalcy for Katelyn, who attends preschool in El Paso. She is enjoying her first-ever soccer experience, ballet classes, and is now participating in the newly formed children’s choir at First Presbyterian Church El Paso, which Trish has volunteered to direct.

We traveled recently to Detroit, Michigan, to speak in a “Mission Weekend” at a church that has been supporting us and Pasos de Fe. We also had the opportunity to travel in and out of Chicago to visit a little with Grandma and Grandpa Reinschmidt as well as Tricia’s sister and her family. What a blessing!

Speaking of blessings, we want to share one with you. As we now are set to finish our second year working with mission teams with Pasos de Fe, the Reinschmidt family’s Chevy Tahoe has been a well used ministry vehicle. It has transported: up to 9 people at a time on numerous occasions, countless bags of cement, 2x4’s, 2x6’s, sheets of plywood, cement blocks, tool boxes and crates, ladders, wheel barrows, etc. But with gas prices climbing, filling the tank has become more painful a process than ever before.

Trish and I have been praying for some relief of this problem. The solution came when one of our mission teams offered to donate a van to Pasos de Fe, thus relieving us of the need to have such a large, expensive vehicle. Unfortunately after much deliberation, the church decided to keep the van after all. “Not too worry”, Todd said, “God will provide something in His time and according to His plan.” Well, the very next day we received an email from a church from the same state wanting to donate a van. Now the Reinschmidts can get rid of that Tahoe and get something smaller, more fuel efficient, and better for the environment. Thank you, First Presbyterian Church of Dodge City, Kansas, and the Reverend David Clipson. With the help of God, before the end of October we’ll have traded that Tahoe for a Toyota Prius.

We have two more mission trips in October, and then we’ll be done hosting mission teams for the year. Then we’ll turn our attention to communications with partner churches and moving forward with programs at our churches, such as daycare, medical and dental clinics, new missions, facility expansions, and the possibility of Pasos de Fe acquiring land of its own to build dormitories, a storage building, and offices in Juarez. That is only the tip of the iceberg of what is going on, but there is not enough time to mention all of it. You’ll just need to come down and visit us to see for yourselves.

God bless you all!

Todd, Tricia, and Katelyn Reinschmidt
