A letter from Todd and Tricia Reinschmidt on the U.S.-Mexico border

May 2006

Dearest Friends and Family,

With the Presbyterian Border Ministry contemplating changes and Pasos de Fe expecting staff changes while Trish and I prepare to leave in December, it is such a great blessing to have churches in the United States not only continuing to participate, but increasing, or hoping to increase their participation.

We just finished a trip with Korean Presbyterian Church of Metro Detroit. In 2004, they sent a youth team. In 2005, they sent another youth team and added an adult mission team. This year, their youth and adult teams returned and they added a college team, which led youth leadership seminars and participated, along with the local Mexicans, in evangelistic concerts.

The college team, led by Chris Ahn, was small but effective, and exceeded our expectations. They were open and willing to work with our mission vision, which is all about relationship and partnership. They initiated the idea of leading workshops for folks who wanted to learn to work with and lead youth groups. Workshops included how to write and give testimonies, what is worship, and how to use the Bible as if it were a life skills dictionary. Then, they worked united on learning the order of worship and the music to several Spanish praise songs, which they then put to good use by leading worship in two local Juarez churches.

Another church that truly understands our ideal of partnership is King’s Grant Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia. They were accustomed to sending one youth team every other year, but last year they decided to start sending a college team. This college team returned for another year, and the church is also sending us an intern to work with us this summer.   Photo of two women with both arms raised up in a gesture of praise. We are pleased to welcome Caitlyn Riner as our newest intern. She will be with us for about half the summer. What an amazing expression of glory to our Lord for a youngster to give up so much of her time to serve.

We’d also like to welcome back Doug Hay, also from Virginia. Doug was our intern last year. He wanted so much to return and serve, but also had the opportunity to serve in Kenya. He was unable to decide which to choose, so he is serving in both. Again, we have much to learn from these folks.

Please keep Tricia, Katelyn, and me, along with Jaime Dueñas, our Mexican coordinator, and all the folks working with Pasos de Fe this year, in your prayers. We’ll be extremely busy for the next couple of months, and we hope to glorify God in all that we do.

In Christ,

Todd Reinschmidt
