Living Water

If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.
John 4:10

We preach the good news of the gospel so that people might know the gift of God, eternal life in Jesus Christ.

In Tete Province, Mozambique, we preach the gospel, and we assist communities in digging wells. Deep wells are necessary in this area, and special equipment is needed in order to reach the pure water. To survive in this place you need clean water from deep wells and in-depth Christian discipleship in the living Word of God. Paul claims in second Timothy 3:16 that this Word of God can thoroughly equip a person for all that they are called to do and be. The combination of God’s Word and life-giving water is powerful medicine in this poverty stricken country. Though we do not live in poverty, we are thirsty. Jesus said, “If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him” (John 7:37-38).

It is said that polluted water accounts for 80 percent of the world’s disease. Therefore, if we can help people find pure water then we can greatly reduce the incidence of disease in their villages. The wells we help to dig are truly life-giving. We have dug nine wells so far and hope to finish another eight before the end of the year. I wish you could see the joy on people’s faces when they come to the well for water.

Your prayers are like life-giving water as you lift our requests and concerns to our heavenly Father.

  • This Sunday we lead a small-group seminar at Rugare Presbyterian, an inner-city church in Harare. Pray for relevancy and enthusiasm for Bible study.
  • We are hosting a group from The Outreach Foundation on May 18-29 in Zimbabwe and Zambia. Pray for safe travel and compassionate hearts.
  • Bob will be in Louisville June 5-14 for PC(USA) Worldwide Ministry Division meetings to network with other regional liaisons from around the world. Pray that his old brain can learn and share from his experiences.
  • We travel by road to Malawi June 18-30. Pray that we will be a source of encouragement to our church partners and our missionaries.
  • Pray for courage on the part of local pastors as they stand for truth and justice.

We will return to the States to do mission interpretation from September to February. Praise God for all the churches that have invited us to come and tell the story of what we see God doing in southern Africa.

Yours because of Jesus,

Bob and Bobbi Snyder
