  Nepal is a small Hindu kingdom nestled between India and China. Much of the country is hilly or mountainous, making transportation very difficult.

Even the capital city, Kathmandu, which is located in a valley at an elevation of about 4000 feet, has only one road down to the plains.

 

 

 
             
 

Every monsoon season the road is closed for up to a week at a time due to landslides from the heavy rains.

  But the most difficult problem is the lack of access to health care for the majority of people who live in the hills and mountains where there are no roads and the only way to get to a health facility is to walk or be carried.
