Dusty and Sherri Ellington were appointed mission co-workers in January 2005 and assigned to Egypt to work with the Evangelical Theological Seminary in Cairo (ETSC), where Dusty teaches New Testament.

ETSC was founded in 1863 by the American Mission, which was itself an undertaking of the United Presbyterian Church of North America, a predecessor denomination of the PC(USA). Of the more than 100 students who attend ETSC, most are Egyptian, though many other nationalities are represented in the student body. Students from several denominations attend ETSC, which prepares pastors and church leaders for the Evangelical (Presbyterian) Synod of the Nile.

Both the Ellingtons point to experiences in cross-cultural mission as an important part of their calling. Throughout their lives they have built relationships and shared Christian witness with people from many countries, including Ghana, China, Mexico, Jordan, and Venezuela. As Sherri put it, after meeting two couples from Venezuela studying to be missionaries, “I had previously thought of Latin America as a place that received missionaries, not as a place that sent them out!”

Or, as Dusty wrote about a Mexican minister who encouraged him as a youth minister, “In Sergio, we saw how mission flows in more than one direction; with Sergio, it flowed mostly in our direction.”

Before being appointed as a mission co-worker Dusty was a Ph.D. student at Duke University and a visiting instructor at Duke Divinity School in Durham, North Carolina. Before Dusty started to work on his Ph.D. he was associate pastor for youth and young adults at First Presbyterian Church in Visalia, California. He was an intern at First Presbyterian Church of San Mateo, California; First Presbyterian Church of Santa Rosa, California; and Middlesex Presbyterian Church in Middlesex, New Jersey.

Since the birth of their first child Sherri has been a homemaker. Prior to that, she taught in the Visalia Unified School District in Visalia, California, from 1995 to 1998. She was a teacher in San Mateo and San Francisco from 1992 to 1994.

Dusty holds a Ph.D. in New Testament from Duke University and an M. Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey. He has a bachelor of arts in religious studies from Stanford University. Sherri also has a bachelor of arts from Stanford—hers is in human biology, with an emphasis in child development. She is credentialed to teach elementary education.

Dusty was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament in March 1995 by the Presbytery of San Joaquin. Sherri is a member of Triangle Presbyterian Church in Durham, North Carolina. They are the parents of two children, Clayton and Christopher.
