Jungja was born and raised in South Korea in a Christian home.
Her mother was a kindergarten teacher who taught her the songs
and stories of Jesus. Her home and kindergarten were in the same
compound as the church, so worship and life were mixed together
for her. Her father was an artist and taught Jungja to be an artist.
Jungja went to EWHA Women's University in Seoul, Korea, and received
her BA. She also graduated with a BA from Hanguk University of
Foreign Language in Seoul. Jungja was a lecturer in fine arts
at Hansung Women's University in Pusan, Korea. For more than twenty
years she has been an artist and painter. She has exhibited her
work and the work of North Koreans in the United States. Jungja
says, "The main theme of my art has centered in Christ and
his gospel messages . . . . furthermore, how to present Christ's
gospel to atheistic brothers and sisters in North Korea through
art has become my main interest. My special interest is in teaching
North Korean children and youth."
Jungja has been active in the reunification of Korea. She works
through art and cultural exchanges. She wrote a book called People
I Met in the North. Its first printing sold out in South Korea.
Jungja is a member of Good Samaritan Presbyterian Church in Los
Angeles.
