Joe and Hannah Kang have been serving in Russia since 2000.
They are seconded to the theological seminary of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in Russia and Other States (ELCROS). Joe teaches
Old Testament theology and the theology of the fourth Gospel.
Hannah's services as librarian are not needed, so she is studying
Russian and doing ministry through the home. Read the Christmas 2008 newsletter from ELCROS.
The Kangs first assignment in Russia was at the Moscow Presbyterian
Theological Academy. Joe taught New Testament and Hannah was the
librarian. Both their work at the Presbyterian seminary in Moscow
and with the ELCROS seminary in St. Petersburg are at the request
of the partnership between the PC(USA), the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America (ELCA), and the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in Russia and Other States (ELCROS).
Prior to their assignment to Russia, the Kangs served as PC(USA)
mission co-workers at Zomba Theological College in Malawi from
January 1991 to April 2000.
Originally from Korea, Joe earned his bachelor's degree in theology
from Hankuk Theological Seminary, now a part of Hanshin University
in Seoul. He holds graduate degrees from Hankuk and San Francisco
Theological Seminary in San Anselmo, California. He served as
chaplain of Keisung High School in Taegu, Korea, and as pastor
of First Korean Presbyterian Church of Virginia in Annandale and
the Washington Youngnak Presbyterian Church in Silver Spring,
Maryland. He is a minister member of National Capital Presbytery.
Hannah, also a native of Korea, earned her bachelor of theology
degree from Hankuk Theological Seminary. In addition, she has
a license for teaching high school English in Korea. Mrs. Kang
attended San Francisco Theological Seminary. She has worked in
various positionsEnglish teacher, pastor's wife, mother,
and librarian. |
