Jin serves in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he is a professor of practical theology at the Canaan Theological Seminary. Jin was ordained to serve in Russia by National Capital Presbytery in 1992, and he has been teaching at Canaan since 1993 while at the same time serving as pastor of the Light of Christ Church. He was supported by the Korean Center for World Missions of Seoul, Korea, from 1993 to 1999 and since 2000 by the Lord Jesus Korean Church of Richmond, Virginia. Jin’s appointment as a mission co-worker with Worldwide Ministries began in January 2005.

One of the greatest needs of the church in Russia is sustaining and expanding theological education. Support to theological education is one of the priorities of PC(USA) mission engagement in Russia. Jin teaches subjects such as worship, homiletics, Christian education, and church planting and growth.

Jin does his ministry in the Light of Christ Church in St. Petersburg in cooperation with an evangelical Reformed church. He nurtures relationships between Russian pastors and ministers by gathering them together for fellowship and cooperative works.

Prior to beginning his studies at Princeton Theological Seminary in 1989, Jin was an associate professor at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. (1980-1988) and an assistant professor at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana (1975-1980)

Jin was an associate professor in the Department of Education at Catholic University in Washington, D.C. (1980 - 1988). He was an assistant professor at Indiana University in Bloomington (1975 – 1980). He was a research scientist for the Wisconsin Research and Development Center in Madison from 1973 to 1975. Prior to coming to the United States, Jim worked for the Central Education Research Institute in Seoul, Korea, from 1961 to 1969.

Jin holds a bachelors (1955 –1960) and a masters degree (1964 – 1966) from Seoul National University. He also holds a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Wisconsin in Madison (1969-1973), and a masters of divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary (1989 – 1992).

Jin is married to Young Ja Kim, who works at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. They are the parents of two adult children and have six grandchildren.
