| Melanie has been living in Spain
since 2000. During her first year in Spain she attended at the Church
of the Resurrection in Madrid, doing monthly preaching, weekly
worship, Bible study, clothes closet, and youth catechism. Before
her sojourn in Spain, she served as chaplain resident at Emory
University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a supply preacher
in Georgia and Alabama from 1996 to 2000, and from 1993 to 1995
she served as mission associate in Birmingham at Independent Presbyterian
Church’s Department of Community Ministries. In this capacity,
she gained experience as an organizer and facilitator of mission
trips, local mission projects, and mission interpretation.
Melanie is working toward a doctorate at the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas. She plans to continue her research on the soteriology of the sixteenth-century Spanish theologian Juan de Valdés, focusing on his theology of the reign of God.
Melanie has a Master of Divinity from Columbia
Theological Seminary, Decatur, Georgia and a licenciatura in dogmatic
and fundamental theology from the Universidad Pontificia de Comillas
in Madrid, Spain. She has a Bachelor of Arts from Davidson
College in Davidson, North Carolina.
Melanie was ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament and
installed by the Presbytery of Madrid and the Presbytery of Sheppards
and Lapsley as pastor of the Iglesia de Cristo on September 20,
2003.
Prior to her ordination, Melanie was a life-long member of the
Independent Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama. She is
married to Amador López-Pina. They have one child, Laura Emily.
