| Shannon grew up in the Church
of the Nazarene in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, but after her year as
a YAV she enthusiastically joined the PC(USA).
“I don’t know if I adopted this church, or if it
first adopted me," she writes, "but the things I want
for it are similar to what a parent would want for their child.
I want this church to grow, to thrive, and to reach its full potential.
Isn’t this also what Christ wants for his children, for
his church? God has given us a hope, a future, and a vision. We
just have to ask God for eyes to see it. I envision a future of
growth, of unity and solidarity for the church. Of course, it
won’t happen overnight. But I believe God will make it happen!
We just have to have faith and commit to work together.”
Throughout her college years Shannon was active in mission service,
having been on mission trips to Chile and West Virginia and in
a multi-cultural student exchange program in Los Angeles, California.
Shannon is a member of Beechmont Presbyterian Church in Louisville,
Kentucky. She holds a bachelor’s degree in communications
from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
