Marion Strain began her service in mission with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in 1999, when she was invited by the East African Presbyterian Church to teach at Rubate Teacher Training College in Chuka, Kenya. She teaches Christian education and works closely with nearby Mwonge parish, where she often preaches and has other pastoral responsibilities.

Rubate Teacher Training College is located northeast of Nairobi, about 40 miles south of the equator. Marion says, "All my experiences, personal and professional, have equipped me for whatever lies ahead on the mission field in Kenya."

As an elementary and middle school teacher from 1962–1994, Marion is well equipped to teach. She worked in a variety of schools in Pennsylvania: Monroeville, Worcester, Monongahela, and Pittsburgh; as well as with the Department of Defense Overseas Dependents School in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Marion received her BS in elementary education from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, and her MS as a reading specialist from California University of Pennsylvania. In 1994, after 34 years in the teaching profession, Marion became a student again. She attended Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and received her MDiv degree.

Marion was licensed as a minister of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa on November 23, 2003, and ordained to the ministry of Word and Sacrament on February 15, 2004.
