Mission co-worker Dr. Farsijana Adeney-Risakotta is director of the Institute for Research and Community Development at UKDW. She works with faculty from all the university departments to develop research projects throughout Indonesia. These projects focus research on problems that communities identify, and the research is designed to empower them to overcome their own difficulties. Farsijana is also the District leader of the Indonesian Women’s Coalition (KPI), which mobilized its members to reach out to victims of a large earthquake. Most of the women in KPI are Muslims. They have grown very close as they work together for others. Farsijana shows the love of Christ to them and learns from the richness of their faith.

Prayer
Holy and wise God, your imagination is beyond anything we could comprehend. Inspire Dr. Farsijana Adeney-Risakotta in Indonesia and all your servants to seek to improve their communities through faithful work. Amen.

Timor-Leste

The slow progress of nation-building in newly independent Timor-Leste came to a tragic halt in April and May 2006 when a smoldering conflict between its military and its police force erupted in violence on the streets of Dili. The conflict quickly became an ethnic clash. Before long, the capital city was divided into ethnic ghettoes, with more than 100,000 taking refuge in church and government compounds. Although the social and political causes of the conflict are still very much under debate, its impact on the Christian Church in East Timor has been traumatic. Nevertheless, the church has been very active in providing aid to the many refugees in the Dili area.
