In Khartoum, Nile
Theological College (NTC) continues to develop its teaching
staff and work for accreditation. Three graduates are already
teaching at NTC, and one is applying for a doctoral program
in South Africa. “We want to encourage faculty development
with our prayers and contributions,” writes former mission
co-worker Betsy McCormick. “We’d like to fund more
faculty positions and provide continuing education for our teachers
and further education for our top graduates and faculty members.”
Nile Theological College provides theological education and
practical training to equip pastors, evangelists, and teachers
for Christian education in schools. With the 2005 peace agreement
in Sudan, the NTC’s work has become more important. The
school now includes an evening diploma program—a two-year
degree in general theology and practical ministry. The dean
of studies, the Rev. Ismail Kanani, envisions a program for
scholarly writings on theological issues from the Sudanese perspective.
Since 2000, NTC has included a practical ministry program
for all full-time students. In this program, students work nearby
for eight weeks in congregations and other ministries under
supervision and take outreach evangelistic trips. Funding for
this program came from students’ contributions, churches,
individuals, and from The Outreach Foundation of the PC(USA). |
