Austria

After annexation by Nazi Germany in 1938 and Allied occupation, Austria’s 1955 State Treaty declared the country permanently neutral. Two-thirds of voters supported European Union membership in a referendum in 1994, and again in May 2005 when Austria became the latest member of the EU.

Austria has a minority of Protestants among its largely Roman Catholic population.

Switzerland

The general secretary of the Geneva-based World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC), the Rev. Setri Nyomi, has said Swiss banks and companies have ignored global inequality. He has urged Switzerland’s economic and political leaders to take a more prominent role in promoting economic justice.

WARC represents 218 Reformed, Presbyterian, and Congregational member churches. The Rev. Dr. Clifton Kirkpatrick is currently serving as its president.

Spain

Mission workers Donna Laubach Moros and Edgar Moros-Ruano have served in Spain since 1999 at the invitation of the Evangelical Church of Spain and the Reformed Episcopal Church of Spain. They teach and, with Dr. Pedro Zamora, are co-principals of the Seminario Evangelico Unido de Teologia. Donna teaches in the areas of mission and ministry, and organizes fieldwork supervision with local pastors. Edgar teaches in the areas of dogmatics and church history and assists in the ministerial and personal development of students.
