The Synod of the Mid-Atlantic
More than six hundred American-Asian youth, conference leaders, and advisers from Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia gathered at Longwood University in Virginia for the nongeographic Atlantic Korean-American Presbytery’s (AKAP) annual summer youth conference.
The energy and excitement were pervasive. In the long registration line, small groups of kids eyed each other and wondered how they would be accepted.
Nearly one hundred advisers met for a short meeting before the Sunday evening keynote. They were enthusiastic, ready for a great four days together. The leader of this event, the Rev. Kyu Kim, a pastor from Baltimore, prayed with such beauty and grace that it set the tone for a significant faith-building time for the youth and leaders. It truly was the moving and astounding work of the Holy Spirit that so many youth, advisers, and leaders came together for this event.
Atlantic Korean-American Presbytery is the smallest of the fourteen presbyteries in the Synod of the Mid-Atlantic, which includes Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, the eastern panhandle of West Virginia, and North Carolina. This culturally diverse synod of urban, mountain, coastal, and suburban areas serves 306,705 members in 1,450 churches.

Gracious and loving God, you come to us in ways mysterious, inviting, and always surprising. Please shower your grace on those whose young lives are filled with choices and whose faith is being broadened and shaped by the Holy Spirit acting within and among them. These things we pray in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen.
