Salem Presbytery
North Carolina
Living into a new structure, Salem Presbytery’s 152 congregations and 34,724 members are excited to discover and provide innovative ways to reach, equip, and send disciples of Jesus Christ for mission and ministry.
Just as doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with God are variations on a single theme, Salem Presbyterians continue to learn that when they reach they also equip and send. Likewise, when they equip they reach and send, and when they send, they also reach and equip.
In three neighborhoods spanning nineteen North Carolina counties, Salem Presbytery strives to be a visible witness to Jesus Christ, to strengthen its congregations and leaders for ministry in the world, and to inspire and model local and global mission.
In Salem’s Central Neighborhood, Lloyd Presbyterian Church hosts God’s Open Hand Outreach in a small room in the basement. Director Ella Pomeroy shepherds a mighty ministry with the homeless, hungry, and often forgotten of Winston-Salem.
When Ella excitedly and effectively shares her abundant stories of God’s providence, it is easy to glimpse a portion of God’s dream. Like other efforts to align themselves with and abide with the homeless, poor, and hungry, God’s Open Hand Outreach is where divine energy is felt as Salem Presbytery’s congregations reach, equip, and send.
Through the 2¢ a Meal offering, Salem Presbytery’s domestic and international Hunger Task Groups grant monies to various regional agencies and eleven international projects.

Providing God, we give thanks for your mission, call, and presence as we learn that when we are doing justice we are loving kindness and walking humbly with you. In our various roles and responsibilities, help us to believe in you and give us strength to do, love, and walk our way into being your presence in the world. Reveal to us the good news that while hurt, injustice, poverty, and wars abound, they are not nearly as plentiful as your justice and kindness. In the name of Christ. Amen.
