Take thirty-five
Presbyterian youth, add nine dedicated pastors and lay leaders,
and blend together in a camp setting for four days of study,
worship, fun, and food at the Presbytery of Winnebago’s
Confirmation Camp 2006. This recipe for personal growth and
an understanding of God at work in their lives shows what can
happen where two or more are gathered in God’s name.
During October, youth from seven Winnebago churches gathered
at Wisconsin Lions Camp in Rosholt. They met in small groups
to talk about their lives and faith journeys, using The Big
Picture resource related to Belonging to God: A First Catechism.
They explored Bible stories, wrote their own faith stories,
and acted out how sin keeps individuals from relationship with
God. Visualization and music that guided important lessons about
baptism, Communion, and Pentecost highlighted daily worship.
As they shared meals and recreation time, they learned about
one another and the wonders of God’s creation.
Young people went home with memories of friendships they had
made and a new sense of relationship with God. Most of all,
these Presbyterian youth saw themselves as members of a church
family and recipients of God’s grace and love.
The Presbytery of Winnebago has 7,943 members in 40 churches. |
