The Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Portugal (IEPP) celebrated its 153rd anniversary in 2007. These are exciting times for this partner church, which is working with two new PC(USA) partner presbyteries: Northern Waters and Cherokee. Dr. David Valente, general secretary of the IEPP, and his wife, Sonia Valente, have visited the partner presbyteries in the United States. Teams are going from the U.S. to Portugal to participate. Portuguese-speaking congregations in Cherokee Presbytery plan to assist the IEPP to plant a new church in metropolitan Lisbon. These churches will serve the large numbers of Brazilians who have immigrated to Portugal.

Spain

The Evangelical Church of Spain (IEE) reaches out across faith lines to serve new immigrant communities from Africa, South America, and Central Europe. Mission co-worker Dr. Osmundo Ponce, who served most recently in Honduras, now teaches at the United Evangelical Theological Seminary in Madrid. The seminary is developing a residence and extension program for students throughout the Iberian Peninsula and the Spanish-speaking world. Two PC(USA) presbytery partnerships have shared visits and programs. The Rev. Alfredo Abad, general secretary of the IEE and pastor of a Madrid congregation, participated in the PC(USA) International Peacemaking Program in 2007.
