Sudan

A church leader in Sudan sees firsthand the results of God’s mighty works as he travels to Darfur bringing food, clothing, Bibles, and training to the few struggling congregations that have formed among the Muslims,” writes Dave Dawson of the Presbytery of Shenango, which is in partnership with the Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church. “Their spiritual hunger is so acute that they ask for Bibles before they ask for food.”

“This church leader has many stories to tell about new believers who have come to Christ, and shares their stories that we might give thanks to God alone,” continues Dave. Salim was once a faithful Muslim who laughed at the local Christian leader speaking to him about the good news. One night Salim dreamt of fire consuming dry land, and then green grass bearing fruit from that same land. A voice from heaven said, “Your life is like that dry land. But if you accept the Lord Jesus, your life will change and become fruitful.” The next day Salim prayed with the local leader and accepted the Lord.

Emile, a Muslim, became very ill. He could find no one willing to help or give him medicine. Then Christians in Sudan prayed for him, and a local leader visited with him to pray and read the Scripture. Emile became well, and then the local leader revealed that although he brought the $20 needed for medicine, Emile would be healed by his trust in the Lord. Emile accepted Christ that very afternoon.

Ibrahim, a soldier, was raised in a family that observed African traditional religions, but he later became a Muslim. He distributed food to those in need on his way to and from the mosque in order to become righteous and enter Paradise. The Lord came to Ibrahim in a dream and said, “You will never be a righteous person unless you give yourself to Jesus Christ.” Ibrahim accepted the Lord, and when his army commander found out, he sent Ibrahim to prison. He refused to turn from Christ during his long imprisonment.

Church leaders in the Sudan ask for prayer as they continue their work in Darfur and ask that the Lord will use them and that other signs and wonders will be revealed.
