A boy and his donkey illustrated Pastor Roda’s talk to the Presbytery of Tampa Bay.
In October 2007, Pastor Juan Rodas from Honduras was invited to the Presbytery of Tampa Bay Super Saturday for Mission, where he spoke about a picture of a boy with his donkey. He noted that the boy was among the more fortunate in Honduras as he had a saddle for his donkey. Then he talked about the boy’s galoshes, which were likely from donations sent to Honduras. Finally, Pastor Rodas spoke about the pants the boy was wearing. He discussed his own boyhood and remembered that he had longed for decent trousers. As a teenager he moved to Tegucigalpa, where he worked as a tailor’s apprentice and learned how to make the trousers he yearned for. He worked long hours but still managed to go to school and complete his education beyond the sixth grade. Today Juan Rodasis pastor of the Pena de Horeb Presbyterian Church in Tegucigalpa, an officer in the Presbytery of Honduras, and a business owner — and he makes trousers for children’s school uniforms.
Through multiple joint activities, the Presbytery of Tampa Bay helps to support its Honduran brothers and sisters. Among these activities are facilitating education of pastors, sewing children’s school uniforms, and providing a hot breakfast to children on Sunday mornings. The Presbytery of Honduras communicates regularly with Tampa Bay to identify goals and activities that will assist them in their continued growth and service to Jesus Christ.

Dear God, thank you for your faithful servants such as Juan Rodas. We pray that you will continue to give them hope and blessings. We ask that you would also guide and support the youth who struggle for an education. Amen.
