Sara teaches about pastoral care and counseling in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Mission co-workers Guido and Sara Mahecha have been working with the Presbyterian church since 1973. They first served in Colombia as pastors and educators in the Presbyterian Church of Girardot and as principal and professor of the former Colombia Presbyterian Seminary in Bogotá, which is now the Reformed University in Barranquilla. In 1990, they were commissioned as PC(USA) mission co-workers and have worked with the Presbyterian Church of Bolivia and the Independent Presbyterian Church of Brazil as professors in the Presbyterian Seminary in Fortaleza.

Guido teaches a New Testament course in Huancayo in the Peruvian Andes.

Since 1999, they have been at the Latin American Biblical University (UBL) in Costa Rica, teaching pastors and leaders from all over Latin America. UBL has a relationship with fifteen theological education programs in nine Latin American countries. Altogether the UBL serves about 2,250 lay people and 1,100 in the bachelor’s degree programs. All UBL professors travel to partner institutions to teach two courses every year. This keeps staff in contact with the diverse realities in Latin America and the needs of the church — a vital component of UBL’s ever-changing and transforming educational approach. The UBL has a strong commitment to women’s ministry and indigenous programs.
