| New Community Presbyterian Church (NCPC) seeks to be a biblically centered community with people who enjoy sharing the grace of God. The church is situated in downtown Chicago and ministers to the residents of Chicago and beyond. The idea of establishing a biblically functioning community among Chicagoans originated with the Rev. Soon Bok Lee, who wrote in her doctoral thesis about the need for building a church for second-generation Korean Americans. As the Rev. Lee began to strategize to bring her vision to fruition, she was joined by the late Mrs. Bong Ja Sung, the former president of the Midwest Hanmi Presbytery Womens Group. In July 1998, together they recruited the Rev. Brad Paik to undertake this project.
Prior to joining NCPC, Pastor Paik attended Trinity Evangelical Divinity School and was involved in prison ministry. He had many opportunities to minister to various ethnic groups. During that time, Pastor Paik began noticing how ineffective he was at reaching other ethnic groups with the gospel of Jesus Christ. So he studied the works of such Christian leaders as Chuck Colson, C. S. Lewis, D. A. Carson, Francis Schaeffer, and Larry Crabb. As he was studying, Pastor Paik noticed the power that worldviews have on people. As he was ministering to diverse ethnic groups, he realized that each group was greatly influenced by its own worldview. By understanding the strengths and weaknesses of his own worldview, he was able to conclude that he needed to respect different worldviews if he was truly serious about ministering to all people.
New Community Presbyterian Church is now in its seventh year, and it has grown as a racially diverse congregation. Over its seven years, the church has seen Gods blessing as it continues to grow and as it even becomes more diverse by ministering to different ethnicities. It is an exciting time for the church as it sees the growth and development of those who are seeking a biblically functioning community and have entered its doors. New Community Presbyterian Church prays that its mission and vision will continue to grow in the coming years and looks forward to seeing Gods hand at work in the lives of those who enter into the community.
Midwest Hanmi is home to 25 churches with 4,137 members.
