Argentina/Uruguay

Participants celebrate the end of an intensive seminar on the Synoptic Gospels in Comodoro Rivadavia, Province of Chubut, Argentina.
Mission co-worker Kathleen Griffin writes about the Rev. Carlos Potenzo, a pastor and seminary professor who was trained as an accountant. For many years, he supported his ministry by working in a bank because he did not receive a salary as a pastor. Nine years ago, he was forced to take a disability retirement for health reasons. His retirement now provides him with a small but secure income and time to study and travel. His passion is bringing theological education to remote towns and cities of Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego where there are no institutes of evangelical theology at any level.
Carlos has become a self-educated theologian with profound discernment. He has opened study centers in the churches of the Association of the Church of God in southern Argentina. Students have come from Reformed, Baptist, and Pentecostal churches. Even Roman Catholic lay persons have taken advantage of the courses. Carlos has found that people have an incredible thirst to learn how the Bible speaks to their realities. His students are discovering new ways of sharing God’s grace, working for God’s justice, and freeing those who have been held captive by the power of ignorance.
