Congregational Ministries

Congregational Ministries (CMD) focuses its work on the ministry and mission of our congregations. We seek to resource and inspire, equip and empower them so that their witness to Jesus Christ is strong. The content of this work is rooted in the Bible and amplified by the countless witnesses from our past. Truly, our work seeks to pass the faith from age to age.

One of the long-standing contributions we are privileged to provide is the Mission Yearbook for Prayer & Study. For 114 years we have been praying for missionaries and learning of the mission of our church at home and around the world. We publish the Children’s Mission Yearbook for Prayer & Study, now in its fourth year, to pass on this knowledge of a cloud of witnesses to the newest generation.

Congregational Ministries Publishing—including Christian education, curriculum, leadership training, and mission education and promotion—creates resources and opportunities that help church members toward deeper discipleship and Christ-centered spirituality.

Through a focus on worship, theology, leadership enhancement, and vocation and witness, Theology and Worship/Spiritual Formation staff provides support and resources to congregations and their leaders. Staff provides for our members’ sustained engagement with Christian belief, common worship, spiritual discipline, and the discernment of God’s call to us in this age. With our seminaries and other governing bodies, we seek to equip ordained leaders and support others as effective servants and faithful witnesses in their vocations as Christians.

We seek to empower workers for ministries of justice and compassion. As an example for us all, the twenty-five-year-old Presbyterian Peacemaking Program continues its comprehensive work. Its work enables us all to address wrongs in every aspect of life that keep any of God’s creation from knowing the peace that is offered and available through Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

Under the direction of the Rev. Dr. Donald G. Campbell, CMD equips our churches for mission in cooperation with our seminaries, national and regional camps and conference centers, resource centers, groups with whom we are in covenant, presbyteries and synods, and General Assembly colleagues. We realize that the faithfulness and commitment of others have brought us to where we are today. For future generations, we add our witness to the spiritual heritage handed down to us from past generations. By providing resources and experiences that focus our worship, inform our faith, and equip our leaders, we continue the witness from generation to generation.
