Ghana
Ghana was the first sub-Saharan black African country to achieve
independence from colonial rule. They are sometimes known for their involvement
in the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The people of Ghana are predominately evangelically
Christian with an increasingly large percentage of Pentecostal practices being
witnessed in the individual congregations.

The focus of our partners, the Presbyterian Church of Ghana
and the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana, is holistic human development
— skills transfer, cultural learning, educational development, faithful
Christian living and other such matters. The goal of the program in Ghana is
to provide young adults with an opportunity to experience the bright colors of
the Christian faith in Ghana, to partner with the Ghanaians as they live out
that faith, and to have their faith challenged in new ways during a year of challenging
and rewarding service. Participants are normally expected to have completed a
bachelor's level college education and be 21 years old, are partnered with a
particular Presbyterian congregation, and participate in many aspects of that
congregation's life.
