Internships, coaching programs, and grants

The Multicultural Ministries office provides funds for internships, coaching programs, and grants to presbyteries and congregations working on multicultural/cross-cultural experiences, and multicultural worship. To learn more about these opportunities, please email Raafat Girgis.

The office of Evangelism and Racial/Cultural Diversity invites multicultural churches or presbyteries to submit their stories. The purpose of this contest is to make available models of Multicultural churches to the PC(USA) nation wide. Please refer to the definition of multicultural church below.

Entries should include the following:

  • Church name, address and phone number
  • Email and Web address if available
  • Total number of members
  • Racial and cultural makeup of these members
  • Ratio of the different races or cultures to the predominant race or culture of the congregation
  • Makeup of the session in terms of racial and cultural diversity
  • Church mission statement, its objectives and the model of multicultural ministry provided to the community
  • Number of years of being multicultural
  • Examples or illustrations of what worked and what did not work
  • Style and effectiveness of its evangelistic efforts and cultural outreach
  • Any cross-cultural ministry experiences
  • Future strategy of outreach to increase the racial and cultural representation on church board, session and ministry.

Include pictures or any other supportive articles from local/regional or national newspapers if available.

Each story will be evaluated using a point system on the merit of covering the above items. Points will be also given for clarity and authenticity of the story and the spiritual energy that the telling of their story generates.

Please limit story length to three double-spaced, typed pages. Only new stories will be accepted. Please do not enter previously submitted stories.

Each applicant must indicate his/her agreement to permit the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) to publish or otherwise use their story for the promotion of multicultural ministry and in educating the church.

What is a Multicultural Church?

A Multicultural Church is a congregation that intentionally seeks to recognize, celebrate and incorporate a diverse membership

in worship by using all-inclusive music, languages, arts and theological expressions,
in a creative and meaningful evangelism by providing the good news in a cup that people recognize with great respect and appreciation for their racial and cultural backgrounds,  and
in leadership by intentionally and willingly sharing power and resources and advocating for justice and equal representation in sessions, church committees and executive positions.
