will be incorporated into the closing worship service of the
conference. This workshop will convene at Central Presbyterian
Church, located at 4th and Kentucky in Louisville.
Advocacy for Health Care Access and Older Adults
Janet Witt, RD MS, Grassroots Manager, National Committee
to Preserve
Medicare and Social Security.
Janet
will share how advocacy on issues
directly affecting the well-being of members of our congregations,
and health care access for those without means to purchase
health care is hands on health ministry.
Surfing for Support: Grant Exploration Workshop
Patricia
Gleich, associate for National Health Ministries.
This workshop focuses on basic grant writing,
program evaluation and finding the funding to sustain the
programs. Health Ministry with Interfaith Couples
Panel to be announced.
A diverse group of clergy will explore the challenges
of ministering to couples when one's spouse/partner
is not Presbyterian (or even Christian!). Different beliefs,
customs and perspectives become very critical around end-of
life choices and issues and grief counseling.
Spirituality in Congregational Health Ministry
Ruth I. Stoll, DNSc, RN is a parish nurse, retired college
professor, author and mentor of Presbyterian Parish Nurses.
Dr. Stoll
will facilitate a workshop process that will provide participants
with the knowledge and skill to implement a spiritual assessment
and spiritual care that will assist congregational members
to identify, affirm and commit to the integration of their
faith-beliefs into their health and well-being practices.
Coordinating and Caring and Coordinating
June Traylor, RN, MSN, parish nurse of The National Presbyterian
Church, Washington, D.C.
Participants will learn a model for coordinating
the "caring" and "compassion" services
of the church effectively.
Health Ministry with Historically Marginalized People
A series of workshop presentations from representatives of
Presbyterian groups focusing on people who have serious mental
illness, addiction issues, HIV/Aids and other challenges,
who are at times held at a distance by the church. What
is the
church's role in nurturing and supporting the whole "Body
of Christ?"
Creative Health Ministry in Times
of Crisis
Mike Chamberlain, M Div, who has spent the last 20 years
serving as interim pastor at various locations in the mid-west
will demonstrate how health ministry volunteers (and pastors)
can develop creative strategies to assist the persons they
serve in crisis situations by managing stress and anxiety
through utilizing their ordinary experiences and interests
to reframe and refocus their thinking during painful times.
Mike's strategies enlarge the scope and value of Scripture
and prayer.
Assessing and Meeting Your Congregation's Health
Ministry Needs
Dr. Henry Simmons will share his "Congregational Matrix, " a
tool for measurement of predictive factors for health ministry
services for older adults.

our finger tips. How do we decide whether what we find is valid,

Developing Specialized Care Teams: A Series of Interest
Workshops
One size never fits all and so it is with congregational care
teams. Some congregations utilize teams for special purposes:
respite care, hospital visitation, grief and loss support,
etc. Others are developing intergenerational teams involving
children working with adults, some even using certified pet
therapeutic assistants. Guaranteed to be interesting!
Integrating Health Ministry into the Church (Primarily
for clergy)
The challenge of integrating the parish nurse/health ministry
program into the professional ministry of the church will be
addressed by pastors who have successfully met the challenge.
