What are the theological and historical basis? How does health ministry fit into and work with the other ministries of the church? How does spirituality enhance our concepts of medicine and caring for people who are ill? This session will be led by Mary Chase-Ziolek. Mary, Ph.D., RN, is director of the Center for Faith and Health and associate professor of Health Ministries, North Park Theological Seminary.

Plus, a day-long advanced training for individuals who wish to become part of the "Congregational Care Team Connection" will also be offered.

What is Parish Nursing? Is It Right for My Congregation?
Not just for parish nurses, this orientation will explore the ministry of parish nursing. It will provide a cursory and introductory look at issues related to the scope of practice, legal status, insurance, funding sources, etc. This session will be lead by Donna Coffman, executive director of Caring Congregations, Inc. Ruth I. Stoll, DNSc, RN is a parish nurse, retired college professor, author and mentor of Presbyterian Parish Nurses.

What is the church's role in nurturing and supporting the whole "Body of Christ?"

Creative Health Ministry in Times of Crisis
Mike Chamberlain, M Div, who has spent the last 20 years serving as interim pastor at various locations in the mid-west will demonstrate how health ministry volunteers (and pastors) can develop creative strategies to assist the persons they serve in crisis situations by managing stress and anxiety through utilizing their ordinary experiences and interests to reframe and refocus their thinking during painful times. Mike's strategies enlarge the scope and value of Scripture and prayer.

Assessing and Meeting Your Congregation's Health Ministry Needs
Dr. Henry Simmons will share his "Congregational Matrix, " a tool for measurement of predictive factors for health ministry services for older adults.

Navigating the Web and Finding Reliable Health Information
Jeanette McCray, deputy director, Arizona Health Sciences Library, University of Arizona
Today's World Wide Web, a wide, wide Internet highway offers a myriad of health related information literally at our finger tips. How do we decide whether what we find is valid, reliable and dependable?

Developing Specialized Care Teams: A Series of Interest Workshops
One size never fits all and so it is with congregational care teams. Some congregations utilize teams for special purposes: respite care, hospital visitation, grief and loss support, etc. Others are developing intergenerational teams involving children working with adults, some even using certified pet therapeutic assistants. Guaranteed to be interesting!

Integrating Health Ministry into the Church (Primarily for clergy)
The challenge of integrating the parish nurse/health ministry program into the professional ministry of the church will be addressed by pastors who have successfully met the challenge. How do pastors share the responsibilities of caring for members without losing their key role? What can they expect from a parish nurse? Topics range from compensation issues to the structural location of a parish nurse or health ministries program and more!
