Church and Society Magazine
Encircling Care: Alzheimer's Disease and Congregational Caregiving

May/June 2003 issue. This issue draws the majority of its articles from a national conference held in March 2003 entitled "Encircling Care." It continues the conference conversation about congregational caregiving, with a specific focus on older adults, particularly people and families struggling with Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (ADRD).

The journal focuses on difficult, life-altering issues—the loss of the ability to live independently, dementia, end-of-life questions, grief, choices about long-term care. Yet the caring response of congregations, motivated by conviction and concern and woven throughout these pages, demonstrate the interconnectedness of our faith.

It Can Happen To You: HIV/AIDS & The Older Adult Video and Study Guide
This resource includes a 13-page study and 30-minute video. The study guide was created to accompany the video "It Can Happen To Me" [initially produced by AARP and given to National Health Ministries of the Presbyterian Church (USA)] as an educational tool. The material contained within the study guide has been drawn from a variety of sources and intended to be used by health ministers, parish nurses and other congregational groups—especially those working with persons over 50 as an educational tool for HIV/AIDS awareness for older adults. It is also an excellent source for classes (especially gender specific ones), conferences, retreats, mission fairs, workshops, discussion groups and lectures.

Presbyterian Care Team Implementation Guide
This guidebook was designed as an introduction to the PCT ministry and as a participant resource to be utilized in the forming of local congregational Care Teams. While it provides a foundation for the PC ministry and an overview of how a caring community might work in each congregation formally, it was created to be used in conjunction with PCT training and to assist the PCT regional consultants as you consider forming Care Teams within your congregation.
