Deferred action for youth is great news but individuals should seek counsel only from qualified immigration lawyers

June 22, 2012

Louisville

President Obama announced last week that his administration would use discretion to avoid deporting youth and young adults who qualify for the DREAM Act.  According to media reports, a majority of Americans support this decision and understandably many immigrants who are undocumented are eager to see if they qualify for the program.  Unfortunately this announcement has provided the opportunity for unscrupulous individuals and organizations to take advantage of families wishing to secure these immigration benefits.  However, the plan is still very new and currently only benefits those already in proceedings.  The American Immigration Policy Center has developed tools to help individuals find out more about this deferred action program and protect themselves.  Please share this information widely.  Visit: http://www.immigrationpolicy.org/just-facts/deferred-action-immigrant-youth-qa-guide.
