New Books for Presbyterians
Four new resources for Presbyterians are now available from Westminster John Knox Press. While some of these books explore the habits of living a thoughtful Christian life, others offer helpful guides for sermon and service preparation for pastors and church educators.
The liturgies in Inclusive Marriage Services echo historic wedding rites yet offer language that can be used by all couples. This book offers complete liturgies, additional liturgical material, and brief essays to guide pastors and couples as they plan weddings.
In The Bible’s Yes to Same-Sex Marriage: New Edition with Study Guide, Mark Achtemeier shows how a careful reading of the whole Scripture reveals God’s good news about love, marriage, and sexuality for gay and straight people alike. This new edition includes a study guide and a new introduction from the author that reflects on the U.S. Supreme Court ruling and changes within the church.
Using theological reflection, storytelling and travel writing, Ben Daniel explores how an intellectually-engaged faith might inform a Christian’s response to a variety of the world’s most pressing issues. Thoughtful Christianity provides a guide to Christian faith that honors tradition while embracing modern thought and valuing critical reflection.
In Feasting on the Word Children’s Sermons for Year C author Carol A. Wehrheim, a noted Christian educator in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), explains the importance and purpose of the children’s sermon. Offering practical suggestions for preparing and delivering sermons to young audiences, this book also provides a retelling of each Sunday’s Bible story—based on the Revised Common Lectionary—for the entire church year.
Inclusive Marriage Services, The Bible’s Yes to Same-Sex Marriage, Thoughtful Christianity, and Feasting on the Word Children’s Sermons for Year C are available for purchase through Westminster John Knox Press and other major retailers.
