2003 Leadership Event

Women Called to Act: Will You Keep Silent at Such a Time as This?

July 30-August 3, 2003

Four days of dialogue, worship and community interaction with a focus on the connection of women, faith and social action. The following was discussed during the sessions:

  • How our Faith Informs Social Action — Participants discussed how the Christian faith sets a mandate for women to do social action and looked at how theology guides justice work.
  • Change Think Globally — Through examining social action from a global perspective, event participants discussed major issues and themes that affect our world. Discussions included global economic justice, international relations and the effects of war on women.
  • The Political is Personal — In this final section students put together many of the ideas that were discussed throughout the conference and discerned individual responses in accordance with faith.

Fun in NYC!
Participants of the 2003 Leadership Event had the opportunity to visit the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) United Nations Office. The visit included a guided tour of the United Nations in New York City and seminars with guest speakers Rev. Jennifer Butler, Presbyterian representative to the UN; Vina Nadjibulla, United Methodist UN Office; Felicity Hill, UNIFEM and Kara Piccirilli, associate for the Women's International League of Peace and Freedom.
