Camp Westminster on Higgins Lake

Nature of Work: Support the ministry of the camp with general carpentry, landscaping, painting, and constructing new program areas.  With various projects, support the surrounding area, Roscommon, one of the poorest counties in Michigan.  Ask about these projects.
Group Specifications: Groups are welcome during the months of May through October.
Project Provides: Housing, meals, ropes course, materials, and use of facilities.
Additional information: We have been a ministry of Westminster Church of Detroit since 1925.  Week includes lodging on the shore of beautiful Higgins Lake, use of canoes, ropes course, climbing tower, sailboats, tennis and other recreational opportunities.  Two hours from Mackinac Island.  Ask about mission interpretation.

Detroit Presbytery Service Initiative

Nature of Work:A variety of service opportunities that may include work at a church sponsored meal program, general cleaning and light repair, painting, or partnership with Detroit area Habitat for Humanity (volunteers must be 16 years of age or older) or other area community agencies.
Group Specifications: Adult/youth ratio: 1/4; $200 security deposit per group; $5 nightly for each person to cover electric and water; group are welcomed year-round, but especially need groups from June 1 through August 1; group size: 10-30; minimum age: 15.
Project Provides: Housing; kitchen; showers; training; worship and devotions upon request.
Additional Information: Excellent opportunities for recreation and education including: The Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, Ford Rouge Factory Tour, Detroit Institute of Arts, the Opera House, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall, Islamic Center of America of Dearborn, Arabic-American National Museum, The Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History, Detroit Zoo, FOX Theater, and Comerica Park home of the Detroit Tigers.

First Presbyterian Church—Benton Harbor-Michigan

Nature of Work: Teams do painting/roofing and minor repairs for low-income and elderly homeowners.
Group Specifications: 8 to 20 persons; middle school to adults. Stay one week from Sunday to Saturday during the summer.
Project Provides: Overnight accommodations at the church; prepare own meals; bring sleeping bags and towels, etc.
Additional Information: Recreational activities include Lake Michigan beaches, many area festivals, and day trips to Chicago

Howell Conference & Nature Center

Nature of Work: Building animal pens, wild animal rehabilitation program, trail work wood cutting, landscaping, general maintenance, painting, and waterfront work.
Group Specifications: Senior High, young adults and adults are accepted during the months of June, July, and August. Other available dates, as well are available.
Project Provides: Hi Adventure Programs such as High Ropes, Climbing Tower and Environmental Education programs available at additional costs. $27 per night, per person includes lodging and food.
Additional Information: The Howell Center runs the only church-sponsored animal rehabilitation program in the country! Full recreational facilities including lake, basketball and volleyball courts, canoeing, ball field. We love work camps. They are very important to us!

Presbyterian Camps at Saugatuck

Nature of Work: Cabin construction/renovation, grounds maintenance, and trail construction/maintenance.
Group Specifications: Adult/youth ratio: 1/8; costs: $28 per day, per adult; $24.50 per day, per youth; receives groups February through November; group size: 15-50; minimum age: 12
Project Provides: Beds; food; housing; showers; tools; please bring own linens, towels and sleeping bags.
Additional Information: We are located on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. Its 130 acres contain hiking, low ropes, climbing walls, a creative arts center, and a wide sandy beach with glorious sunsets. In addition, the town of Saugatuck provides recreation as well as being 45 miles southwest of Grand Rapids and 2 1/2 hrs. from Chicago.

Columbus Service Initiative

Epworth Center: SOWER Work Mission

Nature of Work: SOWER Work Mission Program makes building repairs for individuals, families, churches and non-profit organizations who cannot afford them in this Appalachian area.
Group Specifications: Minimum number in group: 15; minimum age: 12; adult/youth ratio: 1/5; receives groups primarily June-August; typical SOWER week runs Sunday - Friday; adult weekend opportunities also available; costs: $250/person, plus $1500 materials and $80/additional person

FOCUS Toledo Service Project

Nature of Work: Urban community service, including hands-on housing improvements or Homeless service special events. Projects include light to heavy renovation, repairing, roofing, painting cleanup and yard work. Service work also coordinated at local shelters, soup kitchens, and food banks.
Group Specifications: Year-round availability; daylong & multi-day teams, Monday thru Saturday 9am to 5 pm. Youth groups need to have a ratio of 1 adult to 5 youths. Minimum age 12. Adult groups are also welcome.
Project Provides: Work site materials and tools, lunch, educational speaker and t-shirt

Inward Bound

Nature of Work: Residential youth work camp, partnered with Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity. Groups live in Christian community with a focus on simple living, and work in all stages of home construction and neighborhood initiatives. The program partners with other community agencies to explore urban challenges such as the nature and causes of poverty, homelessness, and urban decay and revitalization.
Group Specifications: $290/person - Regular; $350 - late enrollment; Four 1-week programs: June 17 - 23; June 24 - 30; July 8 - 14; July 15 - 21; group size: up to 20; minimum age: 14
Project Provides: Housing, kitchen, beds, bathrooms, showers, tools/materials, food/meals, worship/guided reflection, programming and supervision both on and off site, group recreation (I.e. the beach), and t-shirt. Groups should bring their own bedding and work clothing. Adult leaders are responsible for (guided) transportation to/from site.
Additional Information: This is a transformative, inner-city mission experience.

Joseph Badger Meadows Camp & Conference Center

Group Specifications: Adult/youth ratio: 1/4; Lodging is free. Cost for option meal service. Donation requested for supplies. Receiving groups primarily mid June through July, but other times may be available. Group size: 4-30.
Project Provides: Beds; housing; kitchen; high & low ropes; climbing wall; pool; showers; washer and dryers.
Additional Information: We are halfway between Cleveland and Pittsburgh so there are many outside activities you can do.
