Discovering Opportunities for Outreach and Reflection

Nature of Work: Interacting with the lonely and homeless,
working in a soup kitchen, painting, light construction, and
child care with homeless children. DOOR-Chicago is an urban
exposure and service program, many of our service experiences
are interactive in nature. Your group might serve food in a
soup kitchen, play with homeless children or sing with senior
citizens. Other service experiences, however, are more task
oriented. You might help in construction or clean housing units
that temporarily shelter homeless families.
Group Specifications: Groups/combination of groups totaling
60 (summer) and 45 (Spring/Winter/Fall). Age: Entering Freshmen
and up for our weeklong experience. This experience can also
be tailored for family and adult group. Receiving Dates: All
Year. Cost: Weeklong Encounter (Sunday evening through Friday
noon) $240.00 per participant.
Project Provides: Group reflection, worship and Bible
study are also integral parts of DOOR-Chicago, we believe processing
the experiences of the week is fundamental to learning.

Nature of Work: General maintenance.
Group Specifications: Five to 15 youths and adults are accepted. Please on youth under 12 years of age. May-September (other dates may be arranged for retreats). Maximum 15/group; adult/youth ratio: 1/4.
Project Provides: Lodging, meals and materials are provided. Barn Retreat (lodging) is available for retreats through fall and winter months.
Additional Information: Kemmerer Village founded in 1914 has evolved from an orphanage to one of Illinois's leading residential Treatment Centers for Adolescents with behavioral disorders. Kemmerer Village provides a home with love, protection and education to children ages 10 to 18.
Rockford
Work Camps

Nature of Work:We serve local food pantries, soup kitchens,
youth outreach programs, natural land institutes, and housing
development corporations for low-income housing. A new collaboration
between Rockford Work Camps and the City of Rockford works with
the Weed & Seed program pairing crews up with a home in
need of repair. This experience enables the crews to form a
relationship with the resident they are helping throughout the
week. A list of the site(s) and projects will be sent ahead
of time so the crew can bring proper tools and supplies. Nature
of work is tailored to the group's experience and interests.
Group Specifications: Group size maximum: 50; minimum
age: 13; adult/youth ratio: 1/5; cost is $15 per person/per
night; June, July and August (fall and spring camps are available
but not guaranteed.
Project Provides: Air condition; gym; housing; kitchen;showers;
free tickets to the local
water park for Wednesday nights; free historical tours of
the neighborhood are available upon requests
Stronghold Camp & Conference Center

Nature of Work: Outdoor site and building improvements, landscaping and trail improvement.
Group Specifications: Six teams (8-20 persons) are accepted June 1-August 15.
Project Provides: Equipment, lodging, and project supervision are provided. Meals available for a fee. Some housing facilities have kitchens.
Additional Information: Located on 360 wooded acres that feature a castle, trails, swimming pool, challenge ourse and overlooks the Rock River. |

Pyoca

Nature of Work: Pyoca will beginning construction on several significant projects including 2 large decks for Yurt tents, building a 24 bed year-round facility, adding an addition to our existing Lodge and more. We need groups of all abilities to help with construction, prep, painting, and more. Please contact Pyoca for more details on how you can make our ministry expand! There is always projects available for site management, maintenance as well as future development.
Group Specifications: Group sizes are established on an as-needed basis and primarily needed February-May and mid-August-November. Groups will need to supply some of their own tools and supplies. Reduced lodging fees. Food service to be negotiated.

Additional Information: 1 1/2 hours south of Indianapolis, Indiana and 1 hour north of Louisville, Kentucky.
Redbud Trail Retreat

Nature of Work: Refurbishing of buildings and grounds at church's camp in Buchanan, Michigan. Specific work can be tailored to meet the desires and abilities of the group.
Group Specifications: Length of stay is one week (shorter stays might be possible). We can accommodate up to 50 people. Youth and adult groups invited. Receiving dates are late spring, summer and early fall.
Project Provides: Materials and most tools provided. May be able to have volunteer site supervisor work along side work group.
Additional Information: Camp has a rustic main lodge and sleeping cabins - bath-house has showers and flush toilets. Chicago is 90 minutes away.
