Nature of Work: Tutoring with Southeast Asian and/or
Slavic refugees learning English and Citizenship, Assistance
with Southeast Asian/Slavic Child Care Co-Op and meal programs,
Work with children of refugee families in low income neighborhoods
during FIRM's intensive "Summer Youth Project" (June-July),
during spring break and through special events year-round. Linkages
sometimes possible with other FIRM projects, such as Community
Gardens.
Group Specifications: Volunteers age 13 and up. One adult
required on site for every five youth. cost is $5 per person
for each day to cover staff time and cultural training.
Project Provides: Training and staff support. Suggestions
for local lodging at churches and inexpensive dining with local
ethnic restaurants. Lodging also available at F.I.R.M. office
for a nominal fee. Cultural background and neighborhood tours
often available.
Additional Information: Near three national parks including
Yosemite, Kings Canyon, and Sequoia. We can also assist in coordinating
participation in other local ministries during your stay. Have
received 2000+ Hmong (Southeast Asian) refugees recently, so
the need is especially great.

Nature of Work: Harbor House provides mission outreach
opportunities for church groups. Spend a day to a week with
us, contribute time and resources to Harbor House's ministry
while reflecting on your spirituality and learning cross-cultural,
urban ministry. Mission groups assist with program activities such as tutoring, sports, recreation, music, dance, art, chaperoning a field trip, bagging emergency groceries, or working on the facility improvements. Harbor House staff provide diversity training, urban ministry
reflection, Harbor House's history and mission.
Group Specifications: Adult/youth ratio:1/5; receives
groups year-round; group size: 2-30; minimum age: 10; costs:
lodging, breakfast, lunch—$40.00 per person, per day

Nature of Work: Projects are negotiable depending on group skills. Painting, carpentry, wood refinishing, pruning, and landscaping. Vacation Bible School is also a possible option.
Group Specifications: Maximum group size is 18. Negotiable (late June through August). Sleeping space (bring your own sleeping bags), kitchen inside building, showers nearby. Flat grassy area behind church suitable for recreation and RVs.
Additional Information: Ocean and redwoods nearby.
Siskiyou Habitat for Humanity

Nature of work:Various aspects of new house construction I.e. painting, sheetrock, insulation, roofing, etc. Bunkhouse maintenance I.e. cleaning, sweeping, digging, etc. Handicap accessibility and home repair projects. The range of work is wide and our needs are determined by where we happen to be in our new construction schedule and home rehabilitation schedules. We also conduct Habitat for Humanity Vacation Bible Schools during summer months throughout the county.
Group specifications: Capacity of our bunkhouse is 50. We take groups year round but may not be building during winter months. We ask that each team member donate $90-$100 per person/per week to help with the cost of supplies and housing. We prefer that groups have at least one person with construction experience to add to the site supervision. Tools are provided, but groups will be encouraged to bring supplies if possible. We request one leader for every 7-8 youths. No one under 14 years old.
Project Provides: Housing is dormitory style in an historic lumber mill dormitory facility. Groups are asked to bring their own food to prepare in the common areas of the bunkhouse or kitchen facilities of Grace Presbyterian Church. The church facilities are also made available for worship, daily devotions,etc. Training in construction skills is provided by local staff.

Nature of Work: Buildings and grounds maintenance, clerical, computer and office work, food service and miscellaneous hosting activities.
Group Specifications: Work groups up to 25 senior high school students. Adult supervision and team leaders necessary for youth groups (One adult for approximately every seven youths). Adult couples, one week or more anytime during the year. September - May (workgroups).
Project Provides: RV hookups available; cabin and meals.
Additional Information: Pool, trails, climbing wall, rope course, recreational facilities. Close to the ocean, Russian River, Fort Ross and San Francisco.

Nature of Work: We provide leadership and materials for Vacation Bible School, 30-40 children preschool to grade 6, possible yard work, and painting.
Group Specifications: Receives groups during the summer months; group size: 8-20; minimum age: 14; adult/youth ratio: 1/7.
Project Provides: Kitchen; RV hookups; Housing in church, sleeping bags/mats needed. Showers in nearby public school. Commercial RV parks nearby. Bullards State Park and Campground two miles away, reservations needed.
Additional Information:Beautiful beaches, photo opportunities, horseback riding, lighthouse tours, crabbing, Game Park, glass studio, Old Town shopping. Half-day trips to Dune Buggies, fishing village, gardens.
