Nature of Work:We have several avenues in which a group can tailor the mission experience to their group's needs; from working with families at an inner-city mission to working with farm workers in one of two sites. Emphasis is placed on experiential education and social justice issues. Hands-on mission projects are combined with hearing the stories of individuals in the community as well as discussions and worships within your group. Projects range from working the fields, leading VBS, food distribution, and light construction.
Group Specifications: Adult/youth ratio: 1/8;group size:
6-40; cost varies per length of stay. A typical 6-day trip is $320 per person. This includes lodging, meals, t-shirt, and camp activities such as high ropes, climbing wall, and river activities. Most projects include materials. There can be additional material costs for a group that wants a major construction project. Van rental is $110 per day of use. Receives groups year-round.
Project Provides: Air condition; beds; food; housing;
kitchen; linens; local transportation; rv hookups; showers;
tools; training; washer; dryer; worship. Air-conditioned housing with dorm style rooms; project facilitators; space and time to schedule meeting and recreational time for group building and processing. All projects are integrated with worship, service, & fact-finding as part of the overall mission experience.

Discovering Opportunities for Outreach and Reflection

Nature of Work: Groups engage is a variety of service and experiences with many local agencies and ministries. Some assignments are interactive and relational like serving in a homeless shelter, dancing with adult day care clients, or assisting in summer camp programs. Some assignments are more task oriented such as sorting clothing or food, light construction, or painting a mural. Service opportunities are balanced through the week to reflect the city's gifts as well as needs.
Group Specifications: Adult/youth ratio: 1/4-5; cost: $275 for weeklong, $95 for weekend; receiving groups year round; group size: 6-75; minimum age: 13.

Habitat For Humanity of Greater Miami

Nature of Work: Founded in 1989, Miami Habitat is an
ecumenical Christian ministry striving to build decent, affordable
homes in partnership with low-income families in need. Volunteer
opportunities exist in construction, office support, and retail/warehouse
assistance at the ReStore.
Group Specifications: Group size: 5-100; minimum age:
16; adult/youth ratio: 1/5; volunteers must bring a hammer,
nail apron, and work gloves to the construction site. One representative
from a group must attend a volunteer orientation. Please consult
the web page for dates of upcoming orientation dates; Habitat
builds Tuesday through Saturday. ReStore is also open Tuesday
through Saturday. The Habitat office is open Monday through
Friday.
Project Provides: training; worship; Aside from the tools
mentioned above, Habitat will provide specific tools and construction
materials, as well as supervision for tasks. Water and toilets
are provided at the site.

ecumenical emergency assistance agencies; this includes, but

Nature of Work: Life changing opportunity for living
and working in the New Global Village which is permanently under
construction and will eventually contain five "villages"
on 25 acres representing Haiti, Nicaragua, Kenya, Palestine
and a Barrio or slum neighborhood. The Haitian village is finished
and our barrio and Palestinian house are under construction.
Groups live under real life circumstances and work on things
such as making bricks in the brick yard, catching fish in the
pond, planting or harvesting in the gardens, going to the market
to buy food or build a slum house in the barrio. They might
be cleaning the house, going to the well for water or take care
of the animals. Experience third world life while doing these
things. Learn how you could make a difference. Find out how
your personal gifts and talents can be used in God's work in
this world. Calvin Center provides an instructor who stays with
your group.
Group Specifications: $320 per person; group size: depending
on the time of year we can handle groups up to 50 persons
Project Provides: Fee $295 for week from Sunday through
Friday. Includes t-shirt. Call for rates for shorter events
and for more detailed information. This is a great opportunity
to train for short term foreign mission trips. Individual volunteer
opportunities available.
Additional Information: Open year round although winter
might be a little rough.

Nature of Work: Year around projects for adult as well
as youth groups.The projects concentrate on repairing homes
of needy people in the community. The work can vary from painting,
reparing roofs, siding, doors, windows and drywall as well as
yard work, wheelchair ramps light carpentry just to name a few
things. All of this with special emphasis on personal contact
with the people we serve to witness of the love of Jesus Christ.
For interested groups we also have the opportunity to work on
projects on the camp site.
Group Specifications: $320 per person; receives groups
year round; group size: up to 44; We make an effort to accomodate
any group size by having enough projects available to suit your
needs. Preferred ages middle school and up.We requiree sufficient
adult leaders to accompany the groups.
Project Provides: Air condition; beds; food; housing;
showers; tools; worship; Groups stay in brand new 11-12 person
log-cabins equiped with showers toilets sinks. Cabins are fully
air-conditioned. Normal program runs from Sunday afternoon through
Saturday morning or from Thursday night through Sunday morning
but we can make adjustments to fit your needs. Program includes
contemporary worship in the morning. Daily devotions offered
year around. We provide all amterials and tools for the jobs,
and provide professional supervisors on every project site.
The standard fee of $320 pays for all of this and includes also
lodging, food, t-shirt as well as nightly recreation programs. |

Discovering Opportunities for Outreach and Reflection

Nature of Work: Interacting with the lonely and homeless,
working in a soup kitchen, painting, light construction, and
child care with homeless children. DOOR-Atlanta is an urban
exposure and service program, many of our service experiences
are interactive in nature. Your group might serve food in a
soup kitchen, play with homeless children or sing with senior
citizens. Other service experiences, however, are more task
oriented. You might help in construction or clean housing units
that temporarily shelter homeless families.
Group Specifications: Groups/combination of groups totaling
75 (summer) and 45 (Spring/Winter/Fall). Age:13. This experience can also
be tailored for junior high, family and adult groups. Receiving
Dates: All Year; Cost: Weeklong $275 includes a t-shirt, weekend is $95.
Project Provides: Group reflection, worship and Bible
study are also integral parts of DOOR-Atlanta, we believe processing
the experiences of the week is fundamental to learning.

on gleaning food for the hungry. In addition to gleaning each
morning, we learn about hunger and poverty in small and large
group sessions and enjoy ecumenical Christian worship twice
a day. Intergenerational weekends, College & Young Adult
weekends, Junior High weekends, and Senior High weeklong events
take place throughout the year in 6 states. THE GLEANING NETWORK
hosts day-long gleaning events for church and civic groups in
22 states year-round. THE POTATO PROJECT transports truck loads
of salvaged produce to hundreds of agencies. Your group can
become involved by sponsoring a truck load or having a "potato
drop" event at your church.

Nature of Work: Samaritan House of Atlanta transforms lives by helping homeless men and women gain self-sufficiency through personalized employment readiness and life stabilization programs. This is accomplished through two programs: Cafe 458 and the EDGE. The cafe serves restaurant-style meals to homeless men and women five days a week and needs volunteers to cook and serve. The EDGE is our employment readiness program and needs volunteers to help in the computer lab, clothing closet, and storage facility. Come change lives by helping our clients gain dignity and respect.

kitchen usage, and gym. Please bring sleeping bags and towels.
You are responsible for your food supplies for the week.

Charleston within minutes of Harbor View Presbyterian Church.

Nature of Work: We provide a 2500 sq. ft., fully equipped,
house for youth and adult groups. This house is adjacent to
the church campus. We broker information regarding work projects
within the area (i.e., Habitat for Humanity, home repair, migrant
family services, homeless shelters, etc.). We provide the housing
but not the specific work project. We are a ten minute drive
to Folly Beach and historic Charleston.
Group Specifications: Adult/youth ratio: 1/6; cost: $6.00/person/night;
receives groups throughout the year; group size: 12-25 (smaller
size group possible, however minimum daily charge of $72); minimum
age: 14.
