Nature of Work: BorderLinks runs experiential education
seminars on the U.S./Mexico border. While the primary focus
is education around issues of migration, human rights, economic,
and environmental issues, some seminars also include a service
work component. We provide opportunities to meet and talk with
people holding different perspectives and viewpoints on the
wide variety of social, economic, faith, and political issues
at play in the border region.
Group Specifications: Trips run year-round and range
in length from 1 to 14 days. A minimum of 10 participants is
required. No minimum age, although parental consent is required
for participants under the age of 18.
Project Provides: All
food, lodging, transportation (once in Tucson), Spanish/English
interpretation, group facilitation and most materials are provided
in the trip fee.
Additional Information: Seminars run at $120 per day
per person and are custom designed according to each group’s
specific interests. Fundraising consultation is available.
Cook
School for Christian Leadership

Nature of Work:The work will be done with the reservation churches in the southwest area. Cook School for Christian Leadership will continue to help churches and groups connect with Native American churches. The work varies from light repairs to construction of new buildings. Teaching Bible School during the time a group is helping on the reservation is also usually welcome. Visits to care facilities is also usually welcome.
Group Specifications: Groups accepted year round; group size: 10-25 maximum; minimum age: 15; adult/youth ratio: 1/5; it is helpful if groups can provide money for supplies for the project they will be working on.
Project Provides: Since Cook School for Christian Leadership no longer will reside on a campus, we will help groups make arrangements with local churches for housing or connect them with a similar site like Cook School. Presentations on Native American culture are available through Cook School and we encourage groups to take advantage of this service. If possible, groups should bring their own tools and personal items.
Additional Information: The Phoenix area and all of Arizona is an interesting place to visit. We encourage groups to set time aside to learn more about the area and visit local sites of interest.

Ganado
Presbyterian Mission

Nature of Work: Work for hospital, church , community,
Vacation Bible School, lawn care, concrete, painting, cleaning,
roofing, adobe, wheelchair ramps, sign-making, light construction,
carpentry, electrical, trailer skirting.
Group Specifications: No more than 25 in a group, families
possible, accepted year-round, summer (June-August), and during
high school spring break - adult if not family.
Project Provides: Rooms at dorm with mattresses/sleeping pads
and showers or mattresses in church building. Meals prepared
at $4.75 per person/per meal.
Additional Information: Church van available for trips.
Three hours from Albuquerque, six hours from Phoenix. Work Camps
should provide fund for materials. Weather unpredictable.

New Mexico
Aztec Presbyterian Church

Nature of Work: This is a joint project with the First
Presbyterian Church of Farmington, NM. The work will be disigned
to fit your group but could include working on new housing through
a local group called ECHO, home repair, ramp building, work
around the congregations' physical plant.
Group Specifications: Receiving groups in the Summer
of 2007.
Project Provides: Air condition; housing; kitchen; showers;
tools; worship.
Emmanuel Presbyterian Church

Nature of Work: VBS, need older youth group & adults
to do a jr. high camp at site in Taos Canyon near Penasco, help
elderly with home maintenance, weatherize adobe Fellowship Hall
windows.
Group Specifications: Group size: 10-30; minimum age:
12; adult/youth ratio: 1/5; receives groups during summer months.
Project Provides: Housing; kitchen; showers; one local
flavor potluck provided for group.
Menaul
School

carpentry projects; yard work; concrete.
Group Specifications: Group size: 2-50; adult/youth ratio:

Project Provides: Housing; kitchen; beds; bathrooms;
showers; tools/materials; washer/dryer; linens; rv hookups;
training; local transportation; gym; athletic fields; groups
should bring their own toiletries, work clothing and recreational
equipment.
Additional Information: River Running Rio Grande; hiking
in Sandin Mountains, Pueblo visit, sightseeing. |
