Stated Clerk commends Whole Foods and CIW on agreement

The Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) and Whole Foods Market have reached a landmark agreement to improve wages and working conditions for farmworkers in the Florida tomato fields.

In a statement about the agreement, Gradye Parsons, Stated Clerk of the General Assembly, said, "By voluntarily stepping forward, Whole Foods Market has signaled that 'the time is now' for members of the grocery industry to join in forging a more just and sustainable food system together with the farmworkers."

2008 moderators' conference: "Leadership in the 21st century"

This year's moderators' conference will be held November 21-23, 2008, in Louisville, KY.

What is a moderators' conference?

The 209th General Assembly (1997) voted to encourage "that an annual gathering be called by the Moderator of the General Assembly ... and that this conference be held in Louisville, providing moderators the opportunity to meet and talk with national staff" (Commissioners' Resolution 97-3: Minutes 1997, Part I, p. 738).

Gradye ParsonsThe 218th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) elected the Rev. Gradye Parsons as the new Stated Clerk of the General Assembly.

Parsons brings to the position his experience as a pastor (Tennessee) and as presbytery executive and stated clerk of Holston Presbytery. Most recently, Parsons served as as associate stated clerk and director of operations for the Office of the General Assembly.
