Church (U.S.A.)'s Support for the Taco Bell Boycott
"It is possible
to become discouraged about the injustice we see everywhere. But God
did not promise us the world would be human and just. God gives us the
gift of life and allows us to choose the way we will use our limited
time on earth. It is an awesome responsibility."

Driving through sleet and snow I make my flight from JFK to Long Beach,
CA in the nick of time. During the flight I am reflecting on the lectionary
passages for Sunday, March 2,* and wonder what it means for us as the
church to inherit a double-share of Elijah's prophetic spirit. I wonder
if Elisha was prepared for what he requested. I think of how, so often,
we as the church boldly seek to be prophets with little stomach for
what may truly be required of us. We yearn to be faithful, but the gospel
passage from Mark reminds us that too often we prefer a faith that enshrines
Christ rather than receives and lives Christ's message of justice, forgiveness,
and love in risky ways. As the cloudy night sky stretches like a blanket
across the Rocky Mountains, I pray for our church, that we might have
the courage of our convictions and the love that it takes to be bearers
of Christ's reconciling love.
*2 Kings 2:1-12, Psalm 50:1-6, 2 Corinthians 4:3-6, Mark 9:2-9
