An online publication of the Office of the General Assembly

Features:
February 2002

Welcome to Perspectives - a monthly online magazine published by the Office of the General Assembly. A publication designed to examine Presbyterian Church life with new eyes - to engage the Bible and our theology in exploring issues facing the Church - to utilize a constitutional and confessional framework for appreciating the ambiguities we face - to rediscover new avenues from the lessons of history that enable us to comprehend contemporary situations. These are just some of the paths we'll walk down in this web magazine over the course of time. Each month, in addition to publishing three or four thought-provoking articles on these subjects, we'll also feature a column written by either the General Assembly Moderator or the Stated Clerk of the General Assembly.

Perspectives is not a news magazine, but it does promise some outstanding writing and reflective analysis on our corporate life in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). In this inaugural issue, you'll find a wide range of articles. Look inside and explore: the fundamentalist-modernist controversy of the early 20th Century, the recent inauguration of Churches Uniting in Christ, a theological contemplation entitled "Bearing With One Another: The Pastoral Task in Times of Struggle," and a reflection by Moderator Jack Rogers on "The Church."
