Office of the General Assembly PC(USA) Seal

  Vision and Charge

The Office of the General Assembly will seek to serve and care for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). We will be actively involved in listening, praying, preaching, teaching, and building community and trust throughout the church.

The Office of the General Assembly is committed to a vision of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) that is built on a theology grounded in Scripture and the Reformed tradition as reflected in The Book of Confessions and the Book of Order.

We are committed to facilitating General Assemblies that are celebrations of our common witness in Christ and unique times for seeking the leading of the Holy Spirit for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

We believe that the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) is called to seek unity with the whole body of Christ and all the people of God. We renew our commitment that to be Presbyterian is to be ecumenical. We confess our own brokenness in the PC (U.S.A.) and pledge to promote the quest for unity and reconciliation throughout our church and in the world.

We will seek to create a climate of communication where dialogue flows naturally and facilitates the sharing of the gospel, the telling of stories of faith, the building up of trust and the creation of community.

We will seek to engage the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in a new appreciation of its heritage.

We will work to build up a community among the governing bodies of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

We are committed to using appropriate technology to support a more interconnected Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

We will seek to live our life in the Office of the General Assembly as a model of the unity and diversity that we hope for the church.

The Charge: The Office of the General Assembly accepts the call of God to work for a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) that is reconciled in Christ and led by the Spirit to be a vital church in the world. Our hope is for a church of renewed congregations committed to being an effective witness to the good news of the Gospel and a powerful advocate for justice and mercy.
