— Newly ordained Presbyterian Church (USA)
ministers will receive a “starter kit” of free resources
this year from the Presbyterian Publishing Corporation (PPC) and
the Office of the General Assembly (OGA).
This year’s package — valued at about $100 —
includes copies of The Book of Order, The Book of Confessions,
the Book of Common Worship, the Book of Occasional Services,
Equipping the Saints by Sarah Covin Juengst; a one-year
subscription to These Days devotional magazine; and a 25 percent
discount coupon for a future PPC purchase.
In addition to the new pastors program — called “Equipping
the Saints” — the two entities are also continuing
a program, “In the Beginning,” that supplies a larger
package of free books and resources to new-church developments.
Since its inception in 2000, the “In the Beginning”
program has furnished $42,000 worth of resources to more than
70 new churches.
That package now includes 25 copies of The Presbyterian Hymnal,
25 NRSV pew Bibles, 10 copies of one volume from the Interpretation
Bible Studies series, a Book of Order and a Book of Confessions,
a Book of Common Worship, Presbyterian Polity for Church Officers
and a one-year bulk subscription to These Days.
Vince Patton, PPC’s church relations manager said PPC
is “firmly committed to making sure that PC(USA) churches
have the resources they need to meet the challenges of ministry
in the twenty-first century. PPC is delighted that the Office
of the General Assembly is partnering with us to provide the present
and future leaders of the PC(USA) with resources that will benefit
them in the ministries as well as those they serve.
“The Office of the General Assembly is excited that it
is continuing its partnership with PPC to provide newly ordained
ministers and churches with important books and resources that
will surely aid them in their ministries,” said the Rev.
Kerry Clements, OGA’s associate director for communication
and technology. “This partnership has proved to be of great
value to the PC(USA).”
PPC, with a heritage that dates back 160 years, is the denominational
publisher of the PC(USA).
