Ed Gehres continues to improve; doctors cautiously optimistic

by Jerry L. Van Marter

LOUISVILLE — The Rev. Ed Gehres, the executive presbyter for Philadelphia Presbytery who underwent emergency surgery Jan. 7 to repair a brain aneurysm, continues to improve in a Philadelphia hospital.

According to a bulletin posted on the presbytery’s website late Sunday afternoon, Gehres is “resting well and is able to make decisions, give instructions and have fully engaged conversations.”

He is still in the hospital’s critical care unit and doctors caution that the next 10 days are critical to his continued recovery.

Gehres is accepting no calls or visitors and his family has asked that messages of encouragement be sent to the family home, 38 Toft Woods Way, Media, PA 19063.
